Sight words are an important part of learning to read. Words such as he, she, we, me, so, then, them, this, that, red, etc. appear so frequently in reading that we don’t our readers stopping to sound them out each time they see one. They should be able to recognize them immediately. Practicing these words in the context of the reading is what will lead to mastering them. That is why I created these sight words cards with sentences.
Above is a list of the 50 sight words that I have made sentences cards for. They are perfect for individual work, small groups, center work, or to practice high-frequency words at home.
The PDF file is in letter paper format. Each sheet has 2 cards. Print out the sheets and cut the cards. Laminate these cards for durability. I recommend printing these out on card stock or a thick paper so that they can last you longer.
Each card has the featured sight word at the top in big font. Then, there is a sentence with the sight word underlined and in bold. Each one also includes a simple picture that matches the sentence. I have tried to keep the sentences as simple as possible.
Find, one, has, have, look and, blue are some of the words that appear frequently while reading books.
A child should see a high-frequency word and be able to say it without a second thought.
There are many ways to learn and practice sight words. I have designed board games, activities, worksheets, and other resources to practice these words.
Since sight words appear frequently while reading, it is important for our little learners to recognize them immediately. A sight word can or can not be decodable.
