Phonics words list – -ck -ng -nk -nt -nd
Phonics words list is a great tool to improve reading and spelling. These phonics word lists show our little readers that words are often related by a pattern, a spelling pattern. Understanding this pattern makes them better at reading and spelling.
We have to make our little readers understand that sounds can be represented by multiple spelling patterns. Teaching children the spelling patterns for different sounds is necessary to encode or decode a word.
For now, let’s focus on the spelling rule ck.
c makes the sound /k/
k makes the sound /k/
ck also makes the sound /k/
/ck/ is read as one sound /k/
ck is used when we hear a /k/ sound right after a short vowel.
The above phonics words list is for the ck sound. This worksheet can also be used by teachers to design ck words worksheets.
I usually have the kids read the ck words and highlight the ck sound in the words.

The next word list is for the sound ‘ng.’ Read the ng words and highlight the ng sound.
For the ng word pack, click here. It is a comprehensive pack of 13 worksheets to practice the ng sound.
In the above phonics word list, we have short vowel words ending with nt. These nt words, like other word lists, include words with digraphs as well as consonant blends.
Next, is the nk words list.
The last of the words list if for the ending blend nd. Ending blends nt, nd and nk can be confusing and should be practiced regularly so children can discriminate among them.
