A consonant blend is when two or more consonants are blended together, but each sound may be heard in the blend. In this post, we shall be discussing nt words.
Ending consonant blend is a blend of consonants at the end of a word.
pink, land, tent, lamp, best, crisp, risk etc. are words with an ending or final consonant blend. You can see that blends nk, nd, nt, mp, st, sp etc. appear at the end of a word. Final consonant blends can be challenging to decode because the match between the spoken and written forms is not perfect.
Children usually miss one of the sounds from the blend. ‘tent’ is sometimes pronounced or written as ‘ten’ or ‘mint’ is written ‘min.’ An extra effort needs to be made to draw their attention to each consonant sound and its letter.
Before attempting ending blends, it is advisable to study beginning blends since they are easier. Check this space for free worksheets for beginning blends like, bl, cl, fl, gr, pr tr, sm, sw, sp etc
