The -ng sound Pack 2
/ng/ is not a particularly easy sound to get. It gets more confusing when it’s time to write it.
Lift the back of your tongue and press it against the soft palate. Then, release the noise through the nose. That’s the /ng/ sound. The sound is voiced so the vocal cords vibrate while producing it.
Today, I will share pack 2 of the /ng/ sound which can be attempted after completing Pack I of ‘ the ‘ng’ sound. Pack 1 is to introduce the ‘ng’ sound.
In the above worksheet, have the children read the words and highlight the -ng sound. This pack will mostly cover 5-6 letter words.
In the above -ng picture sort worksheet, read the -ng words, cut the pictures and paste them in the correct block.
-ng sound is often confused with –nk sound. Make sure to practice it separately with your child.
Sort the ing, ang, ong and ung words in the above worksheet. These word sort worksheets will give a lot of reading practice and help the child perfect the sound.
Read the /ng/ words in the word bank and write them under the correct picture. By writing the /ng/ sound, the child will remember that there are two letters in the sound.
The -ng words are missing its vowels. Identify the pictures and complete the word. When practicing the -ng sound, I also cover -nd sound, -nt sound and -nk sound. These sounds do tend to sound quite similar so it’s important to teach the child to discriminate among them.
This worksheet has multiple things to do. First, cut the word tiles and read them. Then, arrange them in alphabetical order. The child needs to know the order of the alphabet for this activity. You can give the child a-z in writing to make the process easier. After sticking the word tiles in order, write the words and match them with the pictures. Color the pictures!
You can read and understand the different n sounds like ng nk nt nd by reading the sentences Pack that I have prepared.
Color and cut the picture tiles. Read the -ng sentences and stick the picture tile to the corresponding sentence.
Unscramble the words to form logical sentences.
This worksheet pack is free for subscribers to download.
