kindergarten reading worksheets

I have created this kindergarten worksheets Pack specifically for our emergent readers for reading fluency. The sentences are simple but long but repetition will help in achieving reading fluency. Each worksheet is accompanied by a little exercise that relates to the sentence.

These worksheets help with sight words and are a good special education resource. The above worksheet can be used when studying CVC words. It can be used to practice ‘the’ and ‘with’ sight word. ‘The’ is repeated ten times in the sentence and ‘with’ is repeated four times.

I generally practice sight words (in the worksheet) before the kids actually begin reading.

The focus of the above worksheet is ‘et’ words. You can also try it with children when practicing ‘et’ words. Sight words ‘my’ and ‘me’ can also be practiced.

I created the above worksheet specifically to practice a high-frequency word – little. Words like little, all, and day appear in most children’s books.

These reading worksheets have been very useful in my kindergarten class for practicing short vowel words and sight words. They are challenging as well as fun. Do not forget to color the pictures!

In the next worksheet, I have used two ‘color words’ that appear often but can also be decoded. I always prefer that kids try to decode the words that can be decoded rather than cramming them.

The exercises are simple and can easily be completed by children on their own. You will be surprised by the enthusiasm children show when reading these sentences.

In case your little ones do not require this kind of reading, you can try other reading sentences worksheets where there is no repetition.

The next worksheet focuses on double consonant words like huff, puff, hill, etc.

I do stress a lot on reading sentences since that leads to reading paragraphs. Paragraphs can be overwhelming so starting with sentences is better.

The last worksheet focuses on ck words as well as double consonant words. I have lesson plans and worksheets for ck words as well as for double consonant words. These are important spelling rules and must be taught to kindergarteners and first graders.
