A consonant blend is when two or more consonants are blended together, but each sound may be heard in the blend.
Ending consonant blends are a blend of consonants at the end of a word.
Best, crisp, risk etc. are words with final consonant blends or ending blends. You can see that blends st, sp, sk etc. appear at the end of a word. Ending blends can be challenging to decode because the match between the spoken and written forms is not perfect.
I will be sharing flashcards for sp, sk and st blend words.
These flashcards can also be used with dyslexic children to practice reading one-syllable ‘sk st sp words.’ These flashcards can add fun to your lessons. These flashcards can also be used when revisiting the sounds.
