Digraph words list
A digraph is two letters that make just one sound.
A consonant digraph is two adjacent consonants that produce one speech sound. They are not blends.
In this post, I will be sharing word lists for digraphs words sh, ch, and th. These ‘digraph words’ charts can also be used on the display wall and since the digraph is highlighted, they work well with beginners.
The first chart is for sh words where the words begin with sh. The sh sound is highlighted in the word list. This can be complemented with Pack 1 of digraph sh worksheets.
The second chart is for sh words where the words end with sh. The sh sound is highlighted in the word list. This can be complemented with Pack 2 of digraph sh worksheets.
Please note that I have used only short vowel words in these digraph word lists. However, I have included consonant blend words as well.
The above chart is for ch words where the words begin with ch. The ch sound is highlighted in the word list. This can be complemented with Pack 1 of digraph ch worksheets.
The next chart is for ch words where the words end with the sound nch. ‘nch’ is a confusing sound. Also, there are a lot of words with this sound so I thought of creating a separate chart for it. The nch sound is highlighted in the word list. This can be complemented with Pack 2 of digraph ch worksheets.
The next chart is for tch words where the words end with the sound tch. The tch sound is highlighted in the word list.
The next chart is for ‘wh words.’ There are limited short vowel words with the wh sound so I have also added words that do not have a short vowel sound. I have also added wh question words such as why, when, which, whom, where, whose, who, what, etc.
The last chart is for ‘th words.’ The th sound is highlighted in the word list. This can be complemented with my Pack of digraph th worksheets.
I have also created these reading cards for digraph words. There are 4 cards on each A4 sheet. I suggest that you print these picture cards on card stock and laminate them for durability.

Why is the word METH on a first grade worksheet…..?
Payal
Hi! It’s another term for methane or methylated spirit. I understand that you are talking about its informal meaning which is methamphetamine. I am from India and ‘meth’ is not a popular word here.
