Reading phonics sentences – digraph sh ch th wh ph
What are consonant digraphs?
Consonants are all letters in the alphabet apart from the vowels a, e, i, o, and u.
b c d f g h j k l m n p q r s t v w x y z are consonants
A digraph is two letters that make just one sound.
A consonant digraph is two adjacent consonants that produce one speech sound. They are not blends.
I have created a zero prep resource for reading digraph sentences for sounds sh, ch, th, wh and ph. This resource will help with reading fluency.
The first is the ‘sh’ sound. I have used short vowel words for these digraph sentences. Read them and highlight the sh sound. Match the sentence to the correct picture. You can also highlight each sentence and its corresponding picture in the same color.
If you are introducing digraph sh for your children, please check this introductory ‘sh’ pack. It is ideal when introducing the sh sound.
The next is the ‘ch’ sound. If you are introducing digraph ch for your children, please check this introductory ‘ch’ pack. It is ideal when introducing the ch sound.
The next is the ‘th’ sound. Read them and highlight or circle the th sound or word. Match the sentence to the correct picture. You can also highlight each sentence and its corresponding picture in the same color.
If you are introducing digraph th for your children, please check this introductory ‘th’ pack. It is ideal when introducing the th sound.
The last worksheet focuses on digraph sentences for ph and wh words. These digraphs are not very common. ‘wh’ makes the same sound as the sound ‘w’ and ‘ph’ makes the same sound as the sound ‘f.’
‘wh’ sound is commonly found in words that are used to ask questions. Words like who, when, which, were, why, whom, etc. are usually used when looking for an answer.
‘ph’ is found in words like elephant, phone, phonics, etc.
There are five worksheets in this pack. Digraph sentences for sh ch th and wh/ph are on 4 separate sheets. The last worksheet is where all these 20 sentences come together in one A4 sheet. It’s quite handy.
This is a subscriber freebie.
